Change Your Pillow to an Organic Buckwheat Pillow

October 20th, 2008 by admin

With the changing of the seasons, perhaps it’s also time to change your pillow!

Regular cotton or foam pillows may last you for a few years, but an organic buckwheat pillow may last you up to ten years!

And with the changing of the seasons, your organic buckwheat pillows adjust with the temperature of your room, unlike foam pillows. Buckwheat hull pillows are cooling in the warmer months, and retain your body heat in colder temperatures!

This is one reason why these pillows are so popular with menopausal women. But the temperature of the pillows is also wonderful for those with muscle aches and pains.

The support of organic buckwheat pillows can’t be beat compared to your old, worn out pillow! These buckwheat bed pillows can be shaped to easily fit your contour, and they stay that way throughout the night.

That is one over on your feather or down pillows!

So, it is time for the “greening” of your bed chamber. It’s time to switch to an organic buckwheat pillow, and get the support and comfort that you deserve over your long, long run!

Why Organic Buckwheat Pillows are Gaining in Popularity

September 22nd, 2008 by admin

Basically you can divide Organic Buckwheat Pillow users into two camps: those with a greater level of “green” consciousness, and those who will try anything just to get some sleep.

Buckwheat Hull Pillows allow those who are experiencing pain - TMJ, neck pain, back pain, those with headaches - get better sleep. Buckwheat pillows provide great support as you can “mold” them to fit your body perfectly, and then the pillows stay that way so you have that firm support all through the night.

The natural buckwheat hulls allow air to pass through the tiny nooks and crannies so you receive a cooling experience which also may act to reduce pain,

Buckwheat bed pillows and buckwheat neck rolls are the green choice for pillows. The organic hulls are a natural substance that are virtually dust and allergy free, Most organic buckwheat pillows are made in the USA and in Canada. Pillows made overseas typically are not organic and the hull washing is not nearly as thorough so the pillows may have lots of broken hulls and dust.

Organic buckwheat hulls are used as the stuffing in both a variety of pillows and in mattresses. Imagine a totally organic bed composed of organic buckwheat pillows, organic buckwheat futon mattress and crisp organic cotton sheets! No fumes from inorganic foam pillows - just cool refreshing support and comfort!

Organic Buckwheat Pillows are the number one choice for an all natural comfortable sleep experience!

Is Organic Buckwheat Just for Bed Pillows?

September 13th, 2008 by admin

Organic Buckwheat Pillows come in all shapes and sizes.

To begin, you have your standard size bed pillow, your queen size, and the king size pillows. Organic buckwheat can be used in all of these by simply varying the amount of buckwheat hulls inserted into the pillows. And remember, you can always adjust the amount of buckwheat hulls in your pillows by adding or subtracting the hulls until it is just right for you! Some types of buckwheat pillows also are available with a lavender sachet inserted into the buckwheat. Lavender is an herb know for its relaxation effects on the body.

But what other sorts of organic buckwheat pillows are available?

Creative types use organic buckwheat hulls inside of their home crafted pillows. You can find a link for the hulls on the right side of this article.

Neck rolls are popular pillow choices made with organic buckwheat hulls. Many people swear by these pillows for their relief of neck pain.

There are small organic buckwheat travel pillows that are popularly used as lumbar support cushions, or for sleeping on airplanes and trains.

Many adults enjoy heating up a neck support pillow in the microwave for use and a soothing pain reliever.

Organic buckwheat pillows are very popular for use in meditation. A nice variety of sizes and shapes are available to support your meditative practice. The Buckwheat meditation cushions (zafu) are becoming the premium choice for meditation pillows since the hulls both provide support and mold to the shape of your body which eliminates an element of muscle fatigue and allows you a longer meditation time in comfort.

Organic Buckwheat Mattresses and buckwheat futons are gaining popularity due to their comfort and utility. These mattresses can be placed on your floor or futon frame and then be rolled up for daytime.

Organic buckwheat pillows have a typical life span of seven to ten years, as does an organic buckwheat futon. These mattresses provide you with both a great value but also a good night’s sleep over a longer period of time than a regular futon mattress.

Organic buckwheat hulls are such a natural and versatime pillow filler! They are comfortable and do not compress over time. They make a great choice for the environmentally conscious and those who are allergy prone.

Consider an organic buckwheat pillow as your next Christmas or birthday gift. Give the gift of a great night’s sleep!

How to Clean a Buckwheat Pillow

August 26th, 2008 by admin

These are the most frequently asked questions regarding the care of your organic buckwheat pillow:

Do you need to clean the hulls inside the pillow??

No. Hulls are actually the fibrous outer covering of the buckwheat. They act as a barrier for the seed. Keep the hulls inside the casing and they will not get soiled.

Can you wash the buckwheat hulls?

The buckwheat hulls should not get wet.

How can I freshen the pillow?

Simply hang the pillow in the sun for a few hours to air it out.

Your pillow casing may be taken off the pillow and laundered.

Do buckwheat pillows attract dust mites?

Buckwheat pillows actually attract far fewer dust mites than other types of pillows since the hulls are inedible. If you are storing the pillows for any length of time, you may want to place them in a freezer for a couple hours a month, or use one of those sealable storage bags.

How long do buckwheat pillows last? Do I need to change the hulls inside regularly?

Good quality buckwheat pillows last as long as 10 years. Cheaper types of buckwheat pillows are made out of hulls that are far inferior to the hulls that are grown in the USA and Canada. Inexpensive buckwheat pillows have hulls that are broken and dusty. Good quality hulls have been cleaned many times over and 99% dust free. The hulls stay whole and do not compress - it is part of their structure - and that is why the pillows last as long as they do.

You do not need to change the hulls regularly. Good quality pillows have the zipper along the side of the casing that allows you to add or subtract any amount of the buckwheat hulls if you wish so you can fit the pillow to meet your supportive needs.

Don’t you need an organic buckwheat pillow to fit into your busy lifestyle?

Not only does it help you to get a wonderful night’s rest, but it is easy care, too!

Which buckwheat husk pillow should I buy?

August 23rd, 2008 by admin

Everyone claims to have the best quality buckwheat pillow. “Sobakawa”, “Sobagara”, “Buckwheat Husk/Hull”… No matter what they call it, trying to find a good brand and company is really hard. Any suggestions? Please no eBay or answers telling me to search the internet. I want answers from ONLY actual buckwheat pillow owners. If anyone has anything against these pillows, I’d like to know what you found faulty about the pillow. THANKS!

Yahoo Ask Questions

Hi! I’ve used a buckwheat husk pillow for years and my neck will accept no substitutes. I started with a Sobikawa pillow years ago and have found that the brand makes no real difference. I’ve even gone to a health food store, bought the buckwheat husks and made my own! The only requirement is that the pillow NOT be too full. If they are, the pillow becomes too hard and doesn’t conform to my head or neck and I’m right back where I started. Hope I’ve helped!

Five Reasons for Choosing an Organic Buckwheat Pillow

August 19th, 2008 by admin

Organic Buckwheat Pillows are an all around great pillow. They were developed in the Orient and aren’t all that well known in the West . Over ten years ago there was a flurry of TV ads on buckwheat pillows, but they were just that - Buckwheat Pillows. They were not Organic Buckwheat Pillows and sometimes the quality of the buckwheat in the pillows sold at that time was inferior to the high quality hulls used in our handmade pillows today.

#1 An Organic Buckwheat Pillow is constructed of organic materials and the buckwheat is grown in the U.S.A. and Canada according to organic farming practices. It is washed several times to remove any dust. There is no chemical odor because the buckwheat is not fumigated like some buckwheat pillows made overseas.

#2 The pillows can be heated in the microwave to provide temporary relief from some types of pain. Be very careful about leaving your pillow in the microwave for very long as the hulls can become quite hot! This is a popular method of pain control with those who suffer from fibromyalgia, neck pain, TMJ, and those with sleep disorders.

#3 The pillows can ALSO be cooled in the freezer for an hour or two to use an a cold compress and provide excellent comfort and relief from pain. Please check with your physician before using these pillows in therapeutic ways.

#4 An Organic Buckwheat Pillow harbors fewer dust mites than other forms of pillows. This is due to the hulls natural function as an organism barrier. The hulls are washed several times before being placed in your pillow so they are actully 99% dust free. That’s great for anyone with allergies. Buckwheat is not a grain but the fruit of a plant that is similar to rhubarb. Therefore those with grain allergies can use organic buckwheat pillows for their sleep. An actual allergy to buckwheat is a rarity.

#5 To care for the inner portion of the pillow you simply place it in the sun for a few hours. The outer covering can be removed for laundering. If you are storing the pillow for a longer period of time you can place the pillow in the freezer for a few hours for any dust mite control although these pillows typically have much less of these than other pillow types.

You spend half you life sleeping so why not place your precious head on top of an all organic pillow! No unnatural fibers or chemical are contained in this pillow. You are sleeping with nature next to your face!

Sleep next to an organic buckwheat pillow tonight! You will be comfortable knowing that these pillows are crafted of the highest quality…just as you deserve!

If You Suffer from Headaches, Get Relief with an Organic Buckwheat Pillow

August 16th, 2008 by admin

Buckwheat pillows have been used for centuries in the Orient, and are very popular today. You may have heard of them a few years ago when the airwaves were filled with info commercials for some popular brands of buckwheat hull pillows.

But only some of those popular commercial brands are made with organic buckwheat hulls. The use of the organic hulls is essential for headache control!

Why? Because the toxins and cleaners associated with regular foam and feather pillows simply are not a part of handmade organic buckwheat pillows. If you sleep an average of 8 hours a night on your pillow, your face is pressed against that pillow for the equivalent of 121.7 days per year. Would you rather be breathing into a natural, no dust, organic substance or something coated with chemicals?

The pillows also breathe, unlike a foam pillow. The hulls have tiny spaces between them inside the pillow that allows air between the spaces. You are in for a cooler and more comfortable night’s sleep.

Buckwheat pillows are known for their firm support and the fact that you need to first contour the pillow to meet your own needs. This only takes a few moments, and the great thing is that the pillow STAYS that way. This is not like a foam pillow that moves when you lay upon it and then returns to normal after your weight is off of it. The buckwheat pillow remains the way you have pushed it into place until you feel the need to contour it again.

All of this is why organic buckwheat pillows are a great choice for headache sufferers. Less pressure on the head, no pressure spots, no petrochemicals, and the pillows are cooler.

Buckwheat pillows are also relatively inexpensive and can last up to 10 years compared to two or three for regular pillows. You can purchase additional hulls if you want a plumper pillow, or open the washable case and take some hulls out for a flatter sleep experience.

I have used organic buckwheat pillows for years and have found only two cons – you cannot get the hulls wet, and the hulls may make a slight “crunching” noise when you lift you head and place it back down. This may take some getting used to; however some have said that it is a comforting sound.

Try an Organic Buckwheat Pillow today for therapy for all of your pain needs, including headache control. You will experience great comfort and a great night’s sleep and feel refreshed in the morning.

Natural versus Organic Buckwheat Pillow

August 10th, 2008 by admin

Why choose an organic buckwheat pillow versus a pillow that is strictly labeled “natural”?

Organic buckwheat pillows are made from buckwheat hulls that have been grown according to established horticultural practices. The hulls are washed several times to remove any dusts. Buckwheat is not a grain, but is the fruit of a plant that is similar to rhubarb. As a result, those that are allergic to grains are not allergic to buckwheat. And an allergy to buckwheat itself is very rare.

The buckwheat hull pillows are also breathable in that there are tiny spaces between hulls that can allow air to pass through which make them cooler to sleep upon than any ordinary pillow. The nature of the hulls is such that they do not compress so the pillows may last for ten years!

The hulls inside organic buckwheat pillows have been taken from the buckwheat plants that are grown and harvested according to organic farming standards. They are washed several times to remove any remaining dust and they are actually 99% dust free. This bodes well for those with breathing problems.

In addition, if you suffer from snoring, neck pain, TMJ, or other bodily pain, the unique thing about buckwheat neck pillows or other styles of buckwheat pillows is that the pillows can be adjusted to conform to what you feel is comfortable…and it stays that way! They provide you with a firm but comfortable support.

Natural buckwheat pillows provide you with the same support but have lesser therapeutic value since they are not as environmentally “clean” as those that are organic. If you are one who suffers from any environmental toxins, you know organic is way to go. A natural buckwheat pillow may use buckwheat that has been grown overseas and is not cleaned as well and is heavily fumigated. The covers may contain petroleums and use poorer quality fabric.

An organic buckwheat pillow is unfumigated and washed several times. The covers are usually made with organic fabric and have sturdy zippers so you can adjust the amount of hulls on the inside to your preferences.

Buckwheat neck pillows, buckwheat travel pillows, lumbar support cushions, Japanese pillows, contour pillows, buckwheat bed pillows, and Makura buckwheat pillows are all types of pillows that serve different purposes that are made from the humble buckwheat husk.

You can find one or more types to serve your individual needs. Please remember to consult your doctor before making any changes in your medical regime. Organic Buckwheat pillows are not a cure all, however, they allow you to get better and more comfortable recuperative sleep and that can lead to a better quality of life!
